Nerdiness Quotient: 1/10 During 7 weeks this summer, we completed a 2,600 nautical mile round trip from our home port Elnesvågen located on the west coast of Central Norway to the world´s largest fjord system Scoresbysund, at the east cost of Greenland. Here we circumnavigated the largest island in Greenland, Milne Land. The voyage went directly from Norway via Iceland to Scoresbysund. Back home we went via Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Nerdiness Quotient: 1/10 None of us has ever been to Greenland, so after it became clear that Katrine was able to get 7 weeks off from work this summer, the choice was easy. But Greenland is big, very big, so where should we go? After some discussion, Scoresbysund is starting to emerge as our goal. We like to challenge ourselves, and there aren't many recreational boats that travel there. The fjord is iced over and completely blocked for at least 8-9 months of the year. We knew that the Norwegian Colin Archer rescueboat "Rundø", built in 1925 was here as a privat yacht in 1976, perhaps as the very first recreational boat visiting those ice-covered waters. Could we do the same as them, and even sail around the island of Milne Land? The excitement of going to such an inhospitable place has triggered something in both of us. Let the preparations begin...
