Last year, it was the jib and yankee (the foresails) that received his care. Sailmakers have the professional expertise to ensure that sails are kept in the best possible condition. Bengt is a well-reputed competition sailor with extensive knowledge of sails, and since Bengt and Albatross Segel was the one who delivered the new sails to the boat in 2014, it made sense to let him take care of the service, even though there is a skilled sailmaker at Maritimt Kompani in Trondheim, which is much closer to us. The 'lazy bag', in which the mainsail is packed when not in use, is exposed to a lot of stress from UV light and the general effects of weather, wind and salt water. Nerdiness Quotient: 7/10 During winter, Moon goes into hibernation in its bed on the water. Shore power maintains the necessary power for heating to prevent frost on board. Normally the batteries are charged to 100% by the MultiPlus-II when shore power is connected, but as a strategy to preserve the batteries in the best possible way, they will be kept at a SoC (State of Charge) between 60% and 80%. To maintain this, Victron VRM (Victron Remote Monitoring) is used. With this asset I can control and adjust the SoC and any necessary charging via the network and the wifi router on board. Via the VRM I´m able to set the Maximum charge current as low as 0A. In this way any adjustment of the Smart Plus-II charging settings are at my finger tips, eighter via my phone or computer. Very practical.

Nerdiness Quotient: 2/10 As a part of the preperations before winter hibernation the sails has now been removed from the boat. Last winter the Jib and Yankee was brought to the original supplier of the sails, now the main sail will be getting TLC by Albatross segel situated in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Nerdiness Quotient: 7/10 When installing the new alternator with a separate rectifier, we opted to use a hole in the floor leading to the engine compartment to ensure adequate cooling air for the rectifier. This air was blown into the aft cabin, providing heating. However, over time we found that the "hot engine" smell became too dominating in the cabin. Read about it here...
